Biographical Info:
After living in Japan for a year in 1996, and traveling through Southeast Asia for three months on the way home, my husband and I developed an addictive and all-consuming passion for this region. We returned home, got permanent jobs, bought a home, and fully expected to stay rooted. Alas, recurring visions of balmy island nights, spicy tom yam soup, saffron-robed monks collecting daily offerings, and women carrying 50 plus pound loads of colorful fruits balanced on their shoulders by a stick and two baskets continued to haunt us. We returned for an "exploratory" trip in 2000 to Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan, and now are in the middle of a one-year journey. In total, we have visited Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Taiwan. We never cease to be amazed by the sights and sounds around us, and each day finds us absorbed in an endlessly fascinating study of Asian life.
