After having sampled some really bad-tasting har kow fan (prawn fried rice) at another restaurant, my husband decides that his wife deserves a taste of the authentic har kow fan - exactly the way it should be cooked! Our little escapade took us to Taman Maluri in Cheras; to this not-so-clean but crowded restaurant!

It has become my business to judge the popularity of the place and taste of the food by observing the number of people at any food joint. Once seated, we promptly ordered the infamous "Har Kow Siew Yoke Fan" (Prawn & Roast Pork Fried Rice), which my husband declared is the best he had ever tasted. While waiting for our food, I noticed there is also another stall right up front that sells Mixed Rice for those who do not have the time for a sit-down meal. Aside from the prawn fried rice, the proprietor also cooks up regular Chinese dishes that are suitable to be eaten with rice. However, the star of the meal is without a doubt, the har kow fan.

When the dish came, I was totally impressed. A whiff of the most delicious aroma greeted me and the generous ingredients used to cook the rice instantaneously whet my appetite further. To cook the rice, the chef had included minced garlic, onions, long beans, prawns, roast pork, and chili padi. An egg was also scrambled together with the rice to give it a superb texture and taste. Finally, all the ingredients were fried together with some dark and light soy sauce, and I believe, an additional unidentified condiment. Best of all, the delicious dish cost you only a mere RM5 - RM6, size-dependent. Oh, and the herbal drink is a great ending to the meal!
