Perhaps I was a little rude about Buon Ma Thuot in the last post - yes, it was initially uninspiring with its beautiful concrete architecture, but actually on exploring it one evening we came across a square full of life.

With vendors selling food and drinks, kites and windmills, the square was alive with families from all around the town who had come out with their children to take the air, meet and have fun together.

It was a really special evening - we befriended a sweet family with a very friendly little toddler, and were very pleased not to have simply retreated to our hotel room after dinner

Oh yes, and I love the mobile karaoke singers.. I've seen them set up all over the shop, including in front of some of the tallest and flashiest hotels in Saigo, and initially thought it was a brazen bit of busking, perhaps hoping for a shot at fame - but it turns out they are actually there to sell sweets! They're not bad though..

Jonny Platt lived in Vietnam for two years and looks forward to going back. He has started Vietnam Travel to keep himself busy while he plots his return..
