The Himalayas is a mountain range in Asia and home to the world's highest peaks, which include Mount Everest and K2. It stretches across six countries: India, Bhutan, Tibet, Afghanistan, Nepal and Pakistan. Himalayan range includes over 100 mountains exceeding 7,200 meters (23,622 ft)of height. The Brahmaputra, the Ganga, the Indus, Yamuna and the Yangtze are the major rivers originating from the glaciers of Himalayas.
Natural beauty and appealing charm of Himalayas have lured the tourists to this region since olden times. Snow capped high mountain chain, attracts the trekkers and climbers from all over the world. The Himalayas is a hub of exquisite valleys, picturesque lakes, snow covered mountains and thick forests rich in flora and fauna.
Himalayas has a great spiritual significance. Hindus view the 'King of Mountains' as supremely sacred. Famous Hindu pilgrimage places located in Himalayas are Nath troika of Amarnath, Kedarnath and Badrinath and the holy rivers like Gangotri and Yamunotri. There are also Sikh pilgrimage spots in the Uttarakhand Himalayas – Hemkund Sahib, Nanakmatta and Meetha-Reetha Sahib Gurdwara.
The high mountain ranges offers a plethora of adventure options for adventurous people. They can indulge themselves in some thrilling and exciting activities such as mountaineering, wildlife safaris, para gliding, Mountain biking, trekking, skiing and water rafting. These adventurous activities will surely give life time memories to be treasured.
The forests of Himalayan inhabits amazing wildlife which includes Tigers, Elephants, Wild Bore, Crocodile, Snow Leopard, Blue Sheep and Musk Deer and many more. In the Terai Himalayan foothills, there are deciduous tropical forest of Sal, Teak, Shisham and on the higher altitudes variety of Pine, Oak, Deodar, Fir, Rhododendron, Birch and Juniper could be found.
