Cuisine: Kolkata sweets and snacks
Average meal for two: US$ 4
If you've never heard of Kolkata sweets or have never tried any, then don't miss this opportunity to get educated while in Bangalore. K.C. Das, Kolkata's famous sweet shop, has opened a branch in the city, which - naturally - is doing fabulous business. Bengali sweets are mostly cottage cheese-based and are light on the stomach. The variety, however, can be quite mind-boggling - rasgullahs, cham-chams, rosh kodombo, sondesh, son papri etc. etc. etc. Glass counters display the day's selections, so the best way to go through
them is to point at whatever looks good. If you like them - which you most assuredly will - you can also take some back home to your family. Kolkata sweets travel well, and the eatery knows how to pack them to keep them fresh
for the duration of the journey. Snacks from Kolkata - like singaras (deepfried triangles made of flour with a cooked potato and nut filling), kachoris and luchis (both are deep-fried breads).
