Description:

Leshan owes it's popularity as a tourist destination to its main outstanding feature - Da Fo, the 71 meter high "grand Buddha," the biggest Buddha in the world. Da Fo's ears are 7 meters long, and it's big toenail is large enough for a group of four to play Twister on with room to spare.

While some travelers make Leshan a day trip from Chendu, the city at the base of the mountain has plenty of hotels, and is well worth a visit. Many travelers take 3 or 4 days to explore Leshan and Emei Shan (35 miles to the north) before heading to points further south. One place not far from Lesan well worth visiting is Thousand Buddha Cliffs, which is as interesting as it sounds.
