Food Spot: Restaurant Al Rafi

Here is an Indian Muslim restaurant that serves a whopping 32 kinds of roti (Indian bread)! Not only are the variety large, but the choices are varied and very interesting. Instead of the usual rotis, Restoran Al Rafi dishes out rotis that are truly Malaysian. There are bread like Roti KLCC, Roti Menara KL (KL Tower), Roti Melaka and many more. The Roti KLCC is Indian bread with sugar, banana and corn. Other more interesting flavors include Roti Plaster, Roti Lisen, and Roti Wawasan.

Aside from rotis, Restoran Al Rafi makes good Maggi Mee Goreng (Fried Maggi noodles) as well. The noodle is not soggy and neither is it too oily, as in the case with most Indian Muslim food. Instead of the usual Maggi Goreng, there is also Maggi Goreng Pattaya, which is noodle wrapped in egg. There are also Turkish delights such as kebab, and other favorites like nasi kandar and nasi lemak. Drinks are of your usual Mamak fare, although they are a little on the sweet side, so you might want to ask them to go easy on the sugar.

However, in recent visits, we realized that the quality and taste of the iced Milo has improved tremendously. They have also started to offer drinks in large sized mugs. This goes well for those who love to hang out at the mamak for long hours. Service is decent, whilst the waiters are friendly and easy-going. Prices for food are decently cheap although the Roti KLCC is a little more expensive at RM4. However, the portion is huge and the taste is memorable! Remember to ask for the menu. There are a lot of surprises there.
