Constructed in the late 10th century, Ta Keo is a towering, plainly decorated temple-mountain dedicated to Shiva. Known as "the Mountain of the Golden Summit", it is the first temple to be constructed wholly of sandstone.

When it's full, the Tonle Sap lake covers an area of ten thousand square kilometers, making it the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Sunset on the lake is a good break from spending time at the temples. Be sure to bring a picnic basket.

Turtle Mountain Island, located 10 kilometers off the coast of Toucheng in Yilan County, Taiwan, looks like a turtle floating in the sea, hence its name. The island has high cliffs, steaming fumaroles, welling underwater hot springs, mountain peaks, sea-eroded caves, a lake, and unique cliff vegetation, as well as a rich marine ecology. Since the Ching Dynasty, Turtle Mountain Island has been famous for its runrises. The best place to watch this spectacular sunrise is from Toucheng Beach or the mouth of the Lanyang River, between April and September.

Long ago, when many families lived on farms, they called Chinese New Year the Spring Festival. With clearer skies and warmer winds came anticipation for what lay ahead. Seeing spring on the way, they would get ready to plant fresh food, hope for a strong, new harvest, and welcome visits from old friends. "Gung hey fat choy!" they would say to each other, "Congratulations and wealth!" or "Xin nian kuai le!", which means "New Year happiness!"
