Recipe: Daging Smoor - Beef with Sauce
Serves 6
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 pounds tender lean beef, cut into 1 x 1/2 inch pieces
1 large onion, thinly sliced
4 garlic cloves, crushed
4 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
2 cups water
2 tablespoons finely chopped lemon grass
1 small tomato, sliced
1 cucumber pickle, sliced
Heat oil, then fry meat over medium heat until meat begins to brown. Stir in remaining ingredients, except tomato and pickle, then bring to boil. Simmer for 30 minutes or until the meat is done, adding more water if necessary. Serve, with sauce, on a platter, garnished with tomatoes and cucumber pickle.
