Food Spot: Restaurant Seng Kee

Previously, if you want to taste the delicious food at Seng Kee, you have to be prepared to sit by the sidewalk of a busy street. Now, they have a shop lot but many still prefers to dine by the roadside.

More of a dinner/supper place, Seng Kee has got to be the only place in the whole country to whip up the most delicious Claypot Loh Shu Fan (literally translated as mouse tail noodle a.k.a. pearl noodle) that I have ever tasted. I much prefer to frequent the place for supper than for dinner, as nothing beats the authentic Malaysian al fresco dining feel where you are sometimes serenaded to by a stranger with hopes of a few coins in return. Of course, you have the option of ignoring the "budding singer".

When at Seng Kee, this is what you must order. The Claypot Loh Shu Fan, a plate of fried roast pork, and an assortment of yong tau foo (fried tofu and vegetables with stuffed fish paste)! The stuffed chili, lady's fingers and bean curd sheet are one of the better ones in town, as the gravy that are poured over it is truly delicious and unique. Let me forewarn you though. The fried roast pork is probably one of the most sinful dishes I have ever taken. Covered with fats and deep-fried, it is enough to make any health-conscious person freak out. However, if you can throw caution to the wind just once (and I suggest you should), you will be tasting one of the best roast pork ever! There are also fried roast pork noodles if you like. The fresh water prawns noodle is also very good.

A claypot lo shu fan for two people is below RM10. A good drink would be the herbal tea - iced and refreshing.

If you have problems finding the restaurant, just look out for these two shops - Kau Lee and Despotic - located opposite it. You should have no problems finding it.
