Food Spot: Ah Koong Eating House

Depending on what you order, this restaurant can really burn a hole in your pocket if you are not careful. From RM3 for a plate of homemade Fried Fish Cake to a bowl of Abalone Noodles priced at RM258, the variety here is interesting and delicious.

Ah Koong Eating House is a seafood and yong tau foo place. The restaurant is powerfully air-conditioned, which is good as consuming bowls of piping hot noodles and other soupy seafood dishes can be a “sweaty affair”. Majority of the customers would order noodles (either in dry, soup or curried version) to go with their choice of seafood or yong tau foo. There is also porridge if you like. Amongst the seafood that you can choose from include abalone priced from between RM138 to RM258, fresh prawns at RM15 a bowl, fresh oysters at RM10 (my favorite), fish bladder at RM10 also and much more. If fresh seafood is too pricey for you, do order the stuffed bean curd, lady’s fingers, chili, and more. And did I mention earlier that the Fried Fish Cake is also very good?

Although the pricing is a little above average, yet be assured that you are paying for premium and homemade food. If on a budget, simply order the noodles. I ordered two bowls of noodles that came up to only RM8. As I ordered the dry version, the noodles came accompanied with a bowl of soup that has seaweed and an assortment of fish/meat balls. Wash it all down with a bottle of homemade soy bean drink, and a couple can look at paying less than RM30 for two bowls of noodles, a plate of fried fish cake plus fried bean curd, a bowl of fresh oysters and two bottles of soy bean drink. That’s quite reasonable, I feel.
