Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu is an oasis of tranquility just minutes away from buzzing Xiamen, one of China's original Special Economic Zones. In spite of its charms, it remains relatively unknown.

The best and almost the only way to get around here is on foot, unless you want to try electir-powered tour vehicles. The paved, 4km ring road offers spectacular view of the beaches on one side and Western-style bungalows with their flowers, pavillions and terraces on the other. However, if you'r feeling more adventurous, plunge into the narrow streets that crisscross the island. maps are available, but not really necessary as the island is so small that it's difficult to become truly lost.

Also known as Garden on the Sea,just simply because numerous different sized beautiful gardens scattering all over it. The most famous one would be the Shuzhuang Garden at the south end whic is designed to exist in harmony with the rolling topography. Sunlight Rock (Riguang-yan)is the highest point that can give you a cool respite from summertime heat.

Don't miss this little peaceful island!!
